Sellers

Our team of marketing and equine professionals are here to optimize the marketing of your horse, pony or breeding program. This professionally produced sale will be held in the Cattle Auction Barn located just across from the horse barn on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The auction will be held in conjunction with the Great Iowa Pet Expo which includes a horse product exposition area, and on the same weekend as the Clinton Anderson clinic, being held next door to the auction. These 3 events will draw significant public interest and will provide an ideal environment for not only promoting your sale horses, but your barn or farm. Sellers will be provided a variety of incentives for taking part in the auction and buyers will enjoy the friendly auction environment.

Arrival & Departure Time

Earliest Arrival – 10am, Friday, October 19

Latest Arrival – 8am, Sunday October 21

Latest Departure – 2pm, Monday, October 22

When You Arrive

When you arrive at the fairgrounds, feel free to unload your horses/ponies and get them in stalls right away. You can unload right outside the horse barn and trailer parking is available in several nearby locations on the fairgrounds. All stalls will be assigned with cards on the stalls and there will be stall charts on the main entrances to the horse barn. Your stalls will be bedded (unless you request a tack stall) but you will need to provide your own hay/feed and water buckets. Please use only the stalls assigned to you.

Once your horses/ponies are stalled, please check in at auction office on the south side of the cattle sale barn. We will check in your consignments at that time. Please bring your horses’/ponies’ current Negative Coggins, any original registration papers and signed registration transfer documents.

If you have any questions once you arrive at the auction, look for Paradigm Auction staff, wearing black, long-sleeve “staff” t-shirts or call Meredith at 515.208.8329 or Karen at 515.988.2700. We will plan to have staff on the grounds until at least 9pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday and until the last horse leaves on Monday.

What to Bring to the Auction Office:

·         Original Registration Papers (if applicable)

·         Signed Registration Transfer Forms (if applicable)

·         Original of Negative Coggins

What to Bring for Your Horses/Ponies

·         Hay / Feed (please bring enough to last through Monday)

·         Water Buckets

·         Halter (a new halter will be provided to buyer but please bring a halter to lead into the ring)

·         Lead with Chain (you will be leading your horses/ponies from the horse barn to the sale ring and back so it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you use a chain to give you better control and avoid accidents)

·         Helmet & Tack (if you plan on riding during your performance previews)

·         Longe Line (if you plan on longing during your performance previews)

DO:

Make the most of your stall area! Feel free to put up information about horse/pony, your farm or any services that you offer. We want you to make the most of this event so let buyers know who you are and what you have to offer.  The combined attraction of the auction, the Clinton Anderson Clinic and the Great Iowa Pet Expo should bring a lot of people through the horse barns so be ready to speak with them and provide them with as much information as possible. Feel free to bring chairs, tables and other display items to put up in front of your stalls.

Plan to present your horses/ponies in at least one performance preview. You will have the option to present your horses/ponies to the public in the outdoor covered arena several times during the weekend. Whether it is on a longe-line, leading or riding, buyers will want to see your horses/ponies moving. There will be jumps set up in the arena for your use and all performances will be scheduled and posted around the barn and at the arena.

Groom your horses/ponies. All horses/ponies are to be led into the sale ring so it is important to make the most of the way they look. Braiding is not required but is encouraged (call ahead if you would like to schedule a professional braider to meet you at the auction). There is an outdoor, unheated wash area at the horse barn but be prepared for cool weather (might want to bathe at home). All horses will be provided with a bridle number so be sure to attach it to your halter during performance previews and in the sale ring.

Please ask if you have questions! We’ll have a lot of staff running around. Feel free to ask for help!

DON’T:

No horses/ponies may be ridden on the grounds except in the covered outdoor arena on the East side of the horse barn during scheduled performance times or non-performance preview times (early morning and late evening). All other riding arenas are off-limits as they have been reserved for other events.

Do not allow anyone to ride your horses/ponies without them signing a release of liability to Paradigm Auction. Paradigm will have releases for all riders to sign at the outdoor arena. Remember that this release covers Paradigm Auction and that you will need to bring your own release if you plan to allow others to “test-ride” your horses/ponies. Also remember that riding is limited to the covered outdoor arena during approved times (see above).

Selling or arranging for the selling of consigned horses/ponies anywhere outside of the sale arena prior to being offered at auction is strictly prohibited.  If your horses/ponies are “no-sale” in the auction you can sell outside of the sale arena after the auction but you will still be required to pay the auction commission (see consignment contract for more information).

After the auction, do not leave without checking-out at the sales office and picking up all applicable documentation.

Other Services

We have contact information for independent contractors offering several services that might help you during the auction. If you are interested in any of the following services, give us a call and we will put you in touch with someone who can help you and provide you with fee information.

·         Veterinarian

·         Farrier

·         Transport

·         Rider (for performance previews)

·         Braider

·         Groom

·         Hay/Feed/Care

·         Sale Ring Handler

CAUTION! CAUTION! CAUTION!

Please remember that there will be a lot of activity at the fairgrounds and take cautionary measures to ensure your safety, public safety and the safety of your animals. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE USE OF A CHAIN OVER THE NOSE WHEN LEADING HORSES/PONIES. Your horses will mostly be walking on concrete and we’ve seen too many accidents happen when animals get away from their handlers. We will be stating in the auction program that all handlers have been instructed to lead with a chain and that the presence of a chain in no way reflects the behavior of the horse or pony (but rather the cautiousness of the auction company). Please be safe rather than sorry.
